The Visit 2003
The Visit
From the fragments of memory, the works awaken similar situations at three sites, with a single large figure and four small figures appearing in them all, standing close to each other, but guarding themselves from any contact. The figures are described as black shadows, preventing themselves from disclosing details such as features or facial expressions. The figures are reflected again in temporary puddles that all allude to a borrowed presence, to a non-existential existence in a reservoir whose destiny is to evaporate.
Described in the paintings - places with a potential of pleasure (circus, zoo, observatory), seem like harsh, depleted and alienated places. Beyond the seemingly normal situations, an enigma floats about, supported by symbolic details like the three monkeys behind bars, an acrobat on a tight rope hanging between earth and sky, and an airplane that introduces the potential of disappearance into all three works.
