Bunkers 1980-1982

These works were executed during my scouting of the Ijmuiden region, in Holland. The vegetation is typical of coastal areas, much like the previous series I painted. Unlike the earlier landscapes, however, here the gentle and soft countryside is scattered with massive bunkers.

Remains of the "Atlantic Wall" along the Northern Sea. These relics of war lie down like concrete monsters, creating sharp contrast to the seemingly genteel, tranquil ambiance of white sand and green grass swaying in the wind.
